abstract

molecular genetics selection on individual genes is a promising method to genetically improve economically important traits in livestock. the insulin like growth factor-i (igf-i) gene may play important roles in growth of multiple tissues, including muscle cells, cartilage and bone. the objectives of the present study were the estimate the haplotype frequencies of the igf-i gene polymorphisms in iranian mehraban sheep and to determine associations between polymorphisms and carcass traits in 439 individuals. polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformational polymorphism (pcr-sscp) and dna sequencing methods were employed in screening for genetic variation. two single nucleotide polymorphisms (c114g and g116a) and two amino acid exchange (s5t and g6s) withthree patterns were found in igf-i gene fragment. associations of igf-i patterns with blood cholesterol and blood triglycerides were significant (p

Polymorphisms of the Ovine Leptin Gene and its Association with Growth and Carcass Traits in Three Iranian Sheep Breeds

Leptin (LEP), the expression product of the obese gene produced primarily in the adipose tissue, is related to feed intake, growth and lipid metabolism. The aim of this study was to study the possible association between polymorphism of the LEP gene with growth and carcass traits among three Iranian sheep breeds of the Shal, Zandi and Zel varieties. A total of 180 purebred animals of the Shal, ...

Association of Melatonin Receptor 1A Gene Polymorphisms with Production and Reproduction Traits in Zandi Sheep

Melatonin regulates some major physiological processes such as maturation and function of reproductive system, pubertal development, seasonal reproduction and adaptation. The activation of melatonin hormone is mediated by melatonin receptor. Previous studies showed melatonin receptor 1A gene (MTNR1A) is highly polymorphic in seasonally breeding species. The aim of the present study was detectio...

Effect of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms in IGF-1R Gene on Growth Rate Traits in Makooei Sheep

Insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R) is a main receptor of IGFs family which plays a critical role in the postnatal growth and skeletal growth in many species. However, there are few reports of IGF-1R gene structure and its effects on growth traits in sheep. The objectives of this study were detection of IGF-1R polymorphisms and assessment of their associations with ...

Association of the Polymorphism Kiss1 Gene Exon 1 with Twin Traits in Sanjabi, Ghezel Breed Sheep by PCR–SSCP Technique

The Kiss1 gene is one of the known affective gene in fertility, which affects ovulation and multiplication. In this study, Blood samples were collected from 100 sheep of Sanjabi in Mehregan breeding station in Kermanshah province and 50 sheep Ghezel breeding station of Urmia University. After DNA extraction, the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used for specific primers amplification of 331 ...
